Government ignored advice over schools list

Tim Byles chief executive for Partnerships for Schools (PfS) has said that the government ignored their advice over the publication of the error filled list of axed Building Schools for the Future (BSF) schemes.

Speaking at the beginning of an Education Select Committee inquiry into the BSF programme, he claimed that when the list was supplied to the Department for Education, officials were told to be careful because of the risk of 'inherent errors'.

Byles told the committee that whilst he accepted the errors in the list were the responsibility of Partnerships for Schools, it was the Department for Education that was responsible for publishing the list without checking the data.
