Sheffield's highway maintenance project on the road

Amey and CarillionMouchel have been selected to move to the next stage of the procurement process for the multi-million pound Sheffield Highway PFI project.

This includes renovating and repairing the city's entire road and pavement network, bringing numerous benefits to businesses and residents across the region such as: smoother road surfaces, reducing wear and tear on motor vehicles; good road and pavement surfaces and better street lighting which will in turn help to reduce crime.

Councillor Paul Scriven, Head of Sheffield City Council, said: "The public has told us that improving the roads and pavements of Sheffield is a major priority for them. We have listened to this and the 'Streets Ahead' project will bring major benefits for all residents and businesses across the city."

Later this year the council will invite bidders to refine and submit their proposals. Work on the contract is expected to begin in August 2011.
