Disappointment for Gloucestershire schools

Gloucestershire County Council has been told that they will not receive any funding from the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) fund.

The Council is very disappointed by this news but a council spokesperson said that preliminary feedback suggested that Gloucestershire was very high on the list of authorities seeking entry this time round.

Entry into the programme would have given Gloucestershire a first phase investment of up to £80m, made up of PFI credits and grants.

Councillor Jackie Hall, Cabinet member for schools, said: "This is a bitter blow for Gloucestershire schools. We're very concerned not to get the funding in this round of BSF.

"The schools involved have worked really hard on the process and it will be a big disappointment. We will be looking very closely at the governments reasons for reaching this decision and will continue to lobby hard to secure funding for the county in the future."

The council will receive more detailed feedback on the decision shortly and this will not affect the Gloucester Academy, as the government has already guaranteed building investment for the project.
