Preferred bidder for Essex BSF

Essex County Council has named Skanska preferred bidder for their £1bn Building Schools for the Future (BSF) deal.

Skanska beat Carillion in the race to take responsibility for the financing, design and construction of the new schools, as well as the maintenance over a 26-year period.

The contract will see three new schools developed in cooperation with the local authorities within Essex Local Education Partnership of which Skanska-RM consortium holds and 80% share.

Skanska UK will carry out the construction and will also design and build a fourth school in addition to the three in this PFI agreement.

The contract for the four schools is estimated to amount approximately £70m and financial close is expected later this year.
